REFRESH YOUR BROWSER.  Be sure to refresh your browser when checking our practice schedule. Our practice schedule can change often, sometimes at the very last minute, so please always check it before leaving home. Because we use school facilities, if something comes up at the last minute and the school needs to cancel our practice, they may do so because their activities would take precedence over ours. No food or drinks, except water bottles, are allowed inside the gyms.

UPGRADE YOUR USAV MEMBERSHIPIf you have not upgraded your USAV membership in Webpoint from the $5 tryout membership to the full junior membership, please do that now. The upgrade fee for most of our players (except our 10 and 11 year olds) is $67. Before we can enter any tournament, especially the important Power League, PNQ, and all the May multi-day tournaments which have entry deadlines in Dec, we must form teams and team rosters first. However, I cannot add a player to a team roster until that player has upgraded their USAV membership. This is a show stopper, please go into webpoint now and upgrade to the full junior membership and pay the $67 upgrade fee.

When you have successfully completed this important step, you will notice that your membership expiration date will change to August 31, 2018. To upgrade your USAV membership, click here, then enter your username and password. Also, when you upgrade, please select Spanaway VBC in the club field. Our club name is Spanaway VBC. You will not find Power Surge listed in the club field as Power Surge is our team name.
WORLD'S FINEST CANDY FUNDRAISER - DEC THRU APR
Our candy fundraiser runs from Dec thru Apr, assuming there is at least 50 boxes of orders each month. This fundraiser is for all Power Surge players to raise money to help pay for their tuition/fees. For our Black teams, profits from this fundraiser will go directly toward their May tuition. For all other teams, profits from this fundraiser will go towards their base tuition.

In December only, everyone is required to sell 2 boxes of candy and so we will automatically order 2 boxes of candy for every player. If you don't want to sell them, you may find someone else on your team or in our club who is willing to sell them for you, in which case they will get all credit from the proceeds. However, all such transfers must be coordinated with and through your team's candy rep.

Starting in Jan, players may opt out of the candy fundraiser. If you wish to opt out, you must inform your candy team rep by the last practice in December (and every end of the month thereafter), when you turn-in your Dec candy monies.  If you don't, two boxes of candy will automatically be ordered for you the following month and you will be responsible for paying the full retail value of $120 for both boxes.

So for players on our Black teams who opt out, they must pay $60 each month they opt out, to cover their May tuition. For players on our gold teams who opt out, they do not pay the $60 because as a Regional team, their season ends in April and they will not be playing in May. However, gold players may continue to sell candies each month and proceeds will go towards their base tuition. For our 12s and practice only players who opt out, they must pay $60 each month as proceeds from this candy fundraiser goes toward their base tuition. All candy monies and opt out fees must be turned in to your candy team rep.

Team reps will issue the boxes of candies, collect monies, and keep track of candies/monies/opt out fees for their team each month. Each bar/box of World's Finest cost $2 each, there are 30 bars per box which comes to $60 full retail value per box. Players get 50% or $30 per box credited towards their tuition, the other $30 per box pays for the candy. Candy monies for 2 boxes total $120, and are due to your team reps on or before the last practice day in December, and each month thereafter. Players may also sell more than 2 boxes in a month, however, they must order additional boxes through their team rep.

When you turn in your monies each month, please also let your team rep know if you are opting out the next month or if you want to order additional boxes. Players may also order/sell 1 box, pay the $30 opt out fee to cover the 2nd box, and turn-in $90 ($60 for selling 1 box, $30 for opting out on the 2nd box) in a particular month. If any additional boxes of candies are sold, credit will go towards a players tuition.

Dec 2017 Practices

Posted by Kama Kalalau at Dec 1, 2017 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Practices in December.  We were recently informed that the PLS gym would not be available at all in December.  So for December only, our practices will be Fridays and Saturdays.  Normally I wouldn't schedule practices Friday evenings but gyms are very difficult to get and LCC was the only gym available.  And the only times available at LCC were Fridays and Saturdays.  So make the best of the situation, see next week's practice schedule below.

Mon 4 Dec 2017

6:30 PM to 8 PM at Sprinker, 12s

Tue 5 Dec 2017
     6:30 PM to 8 PM at Sprinker, 16-1s, 16-2s, & 18s
Note 1:  No practice, however we will have mandatory team meetings.  Players must turn-in any missing paper work and money.  If you have not upgraded your USAV membership, please do that in webpoint before attending this team meeting.

Wed 6 Dec 2017
6:30 PM to 8 PM at Sprinker, 12s
Note:  Each player/parent will sign for 2 boxes of candies tonight (Please see note in previous paragraph regarding candies).  Parents please be present to sign for your candies from the team rep.  If you have not upgraded your USAV membership, please do that before coming to practice tonight.  The upgrade fee for 10 and 11 year olds should be $10.  However, you must upgrade under the "Other Youth" category, not the "Junior" category.  Also, if you are missing any paperwork, or if you have not paid your commitment fee yet, please turn those things in tonight.  Please read the important note above about forming teams and team rosters.  We don't want to miss the deadline for Power League because players did not upgrade their USAV membership.

Profits from the sale of candies for our 16 Gold players will be credited towards their base tuition.  Our 12s  are required to sell 2 boxes of candies each month or pay the $60 each month as part of their base tuition.

Sun 17 Dec 2017
1:30 PM to 3:30 PM at Parkland/Spanaway Pierce County Library, Scorer's Training for New Club Players
Note 1:  The library is located at 13718 Pacific Ave. S. Tacoma, WA 98444
Note 2:  If you are new to club ball, you must attend this training.  If you are a returning player and you don't know how to keep score, you must also attend this training.  This training does not replace the mandatory online Ref/Score clinics everyone must complete before they can be placed on a team roster.

1:30 PM to 3:30 PM at the Parkland/Spanaway PC Library, 12s (Mandatory Scorer's Training)
Note:  Parents of our 12s, please be at practice with your champion to help with this training.  A parent/adult needs to be at the score table at all times to help our babies with the score keeping, when we have to officiate a match.

NOTE:  A team's offense is limited to a setter's skill, knowledge, and abilities.  A team can only progress offensively as quickly as the setter progresses.  Because setters are key to any team's offense, we will have extra setters training in December.  If you are setting for your team, or if you are a backup setter or right side (check with your coach), please attend our setter's training sessions.  It is only an hour, so suck it up and take advantage of this extremely rare opportunity.  The setters training will be Sprinker Rec (SRC). See dates and times below.
